Job Description

The Manuals seeks a physician with experience in writing and editing, for the unique position of Physician Editor at the Manuals. This is an opportunity to use your medical knowledge and editorial skills to contribute to medical education and clinical decision support for healthcare professionals, while also providing high quality content for patient education. You would be joining a digital health team that has a global impact.

The Manuals’ internal editorial team collaborates with over 400 leading academic external authors and editors to provide high quality medical information to professionals and patients. The Manuals, a trusted resource since 1899, is now an innovative digital platform delivered on the web, mobile apps, and through electronic health record integrations to reach a global audience. The Manuals provide free access to medical content translated into 14 languages and are viewed by more than 1 billion users each year.

A minimum of 5 years clinical experience and demonstrated writing skills are mandatory. Current clinical activity and experience in an academic medical institution is preferred. Experience with interactive digital clinical tools, and social media is preferred. The ideal candidate will also possess excellent organization, communication, collaboration skills.

Position Description

Physician Editors maintain and improve Professional and Consumer versions of our company's Manuals and related content. Physician Editors are part of an editorial team that consists of other Physician Editors, Staff Editors, and a Marketing Team.

Primary responsibilities include the following:

  • Edit and write professional and consumer versions of our company's Manuals chapters to ensure completeness, accuracy, currency, style consistency, and clinical relevance.

  • Collaborate with external contributors and internal staff editors and physician editors to ensure content quality and meet editorial workflow goals.

  • Participate in additional company Manuals projects as directed by management.

  • Help identify, develop, and review digital content for the Manuals, such as videos, images, quizzes, cases, and other enhanced content.

  • Work with the Manuals’ marketing and awareness team to develop and review social media campaigns and content, editorials, and other content, as needed.

  • Assist in the development and training of staff editors if needed.

  • Participate in appropriate professional of our company's. activities.

  • Participate in promotional activities (eg, trade shows) for The Manuals.

  • Remain clinically astute and well informed.

Qualifications and Experience

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • MD or DO degree

Required Experience and Skills

  • At least five years of clinical experience, preferably in an academic medical institution.

  • Demonstrated skills in writing and editing medical content.

  • Experience in teaching medical subjects.

Desired Experience and Skills -

  • In current clinical practice.

  • Demonstrated project management skills.

  • Familiarity with digital publication and social media.

  • Demonstrated ability to write on medical subjects for a lay audience.

  • Experience in writing test questions for medical professionals.

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Effective September 5, 2023, employees in office-based positions in the U.S. will be working a Hybrid work consisting of three total days on-site per week, generally Tuesday, Wednesday and either Monday or Thursday, although the specific days may vary by site or organization, with Friday designated as a remote-working day, unless business critical tasks require an on-site presence. Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidate’s relevant skills, experience, and education.

Expected salary range:

$220,700.00 - $347,500.00
