Merck Director, Animal Health Manufacturing - Learning & Development Lead in Millsboro, Delaware

Job Description

The Learning Director in Global Animal Health Learning & Development (GAHM L&D) is responsible for serving as a trusted partner to business leaders and stakeholders across Animal Health Manufacturing Sites and a subset of Technical Solution Sites. Their focus is to enable business goals and outcomes by accelerating the development of critical capabilities to drive business success through an engaged and trained workforce.

S/he directs a team of Learning Partners and a Function Learning Lead to support the development and execution of a division/function’s learning strategy. S/he continuously applies an understanding of key business priorities/processes and external best practices, partners with key stakeholders to identify performance needs and gaps, collaborates with SMEs and instructional designers to create fit-for-purpose training solutions, and operational experts on desired performance outcomes. Success will be measured through a defined set of key performance indicators that will ensure the programs are creating the intended value.

This leader will build and maintain strategic business relationships, build sponsorship, and provide expertise to an integrated learning network. Instrumental to the leader’s success will be their ability to proactively translate the goals of the business into learning strategies and solutions, then oversees effective design and delivery through a network of internal and, at times, external colleagues.

Responsibilities:

  • Through partnership with Manufacturing business leaders and self-learning, develop a comprehensive understanding of the Global Animal Health Manufacturing business strategy/priorities to inform the development of an aligned Learning & Development Plan that will improve site/network performance. Establish KPIs and consistently measure and report on business value realized.

  • Manage a team of Regional Learning Partners and Function Lead to support learning strategies and solutions with the strategic plans of the division or function. Attract, assess, retain and develop team members.

  • Advise senior business leaders on the implications of short and long-term decisions, strategies, and large-scale change efforts on employee learning and development in their respective business areas, and how those implications will affect sustainable business results. Build sponsorship for forthcoming L&D initiatives.

  • Leverage available data and business insights to proactively uncover learning opportunities and provide recommendations to Manufacturing and/or Functional Leadership.

  • Cultivate strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders including the AH Manufacturing Leadership Team, Site Managers, Learning Experience Lead, Learning Operations, Lead, Human Health Manufacturing L&D Lead, etc.

  • Own, prioritize and manage portfolio of work and overall Learner Experience.

  • Provide critical input to the curriculum design team responsible for overall planning of learner experiences and pathways. Ensure these deliverables drive business relevance and impact and provide a modern, compelling learning experience.

  • Ensure effective delivery and execution of learning. Develop capability of local Learning& Development (L&D) colleagues or global/local subject matter experts who will deliver or facilitate, as needed.

  • Utilize data-driven insights to define business and learning outcomes. Develop Scorecard to measure and report impact of learning programs against set metrics, and evolve/modify solutions as needed.

  • Communication Skills / Executive Presence: Advanced ability to express oneself to provide information to others effectively and in a succinct manner; outstanding verbal, written, and executive level presentation abilities and interpersonal skills

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Advanced ability to use a broad range of methods, assumptions, frameworks, and perspectives when solving problems and making decisions. Ability to ruthlessly prioritize own and team’s work. Seek first to leverage existing resources and align with other areas of before developing new assets

  • Data analytics: Ability to determine business and learning outcomes, metrics and measurement strategies. Ability to analyze and interpret data for business and learning decisions

  • Leadership/ Management: Experience building, motivating, developing and mentoring highly capable diverse teams

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area of study.

Required:

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant working experience.

  • Experience working in Manufacturing Operations or Functions

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree preferred

  • Management experience

  • Familiarity with Animal Health Manufacturing

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Effective September 5, 2023, employees in office-based positions in the U.S. will be working a Hybrid work consisting of three total days on-site per week, generally Tuesday, Wednesday and either Monday or Thursday, although the specific days may vary by site or organization, with Friday designated as a remote-working day, unless business critical tasks require an on-site presence. Expected salary range:

$164,800.00 - $259,400.00
