Merck Associate Director, Strategic Planning in North Wales, Pennsylvania

Job Description

The Global Vaccines Strategy group is responsible for asking and answering questions critical to our business success and public health goals. In this function, we serve at the intersection of the enterprise to deliver clarity on important choices to ensure our long-term leadership in Vaccines. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to evolve cross divisional strategy to protect current and future generations from preventable infectious diseases. The Associate Director will be responsible for leading and supporting several high impact strategic projects across the Vaccines business. In addition, the Associate Director will have the opportunity to support our New Products group as they work to build the commercial strategy for the next generation of our vaccine pipeline.

As a team:

  • We help to tackle the most significant cross- cutting business questions for our Company's Global Vaccines organization, working closely across franchises, divisions (MRL, MMD, HH), and geographies to bring clear answers to these questions

  • We drive alignment and collaboration across-divisions (enterprise) throughout the development, recommendations and delivery of strategies.

  • We create objective fact-based business strategies resulting in explicit choices and clear priorities that maximize our competitive advantage

  • We believe in high impact solutions derived from data analytics and insights to provide clear strategic choices

  • We lean in to ambiguity and uncertainty to provide well-reasoned and principled based recommendations to key business challenges

Primary Activities include and may not limited to:

  • Drive strategy development across several complex ambiguous challenges and opportunities

  • Frame business case, trade-off choices, and risks

  • Create a clear set of choices, told with an effective narrative

  • Build models and analyses that inform strategic decisions

  • Work closely with senior leadership on a frequent basis on our key priorities

  • Build cross-disciplinary network and understanding to enable strategic decision making

  • Promote transparency and visibility to work, risks, and opportunities

  • Build strong, open and collaborative working relationships among leadership, peers, and support teams within and outside the organization

  • Build strong value proposition, narrative, and launch strategy for early commercial assets

  • Contribute to and help shape the strategic direction of commercial programs through active participation within our Global cross-divisional Team, and other forums with regional leaders

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in pharmaceutical based roles

  • The ability to build strategy from white space in a collaborative manner with diverse stakeholders

  • Strong executive presence and communication skills with the ability to speak with candor

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to align various stakeholders to a common goal

  • Confidence to work independently and successfully navigate a team through ambiguity

  • Strong understanding of compliance-related concepts and application in all job-related functions

  • Excellent data analysis and insight generation skillset

  • Willingness to work on an agile team, with shared goals and accountability

  • Advanced skills in PowerPoint, Excel, and MS Teams

  • Able and willing to travel 10 - 15% domestic & international

  • Able to work at the North Wales, Pennsylvania (North Wales) office at least 3 days per week

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • MBA or master's in public health or related field

  • Local and/or regional in-market experience

  • Experience across multiple functions/divisions within our Company or related pharma company

U.S. Hybrid Work Model
