Description

The Discovery Sample Management (DSM) team is seeking a highly motivated individual to provide automation and engineering solutions for sample management and high throughput purification.

The selected individual will provide automation support for large scale sample management automated platforms at our company’s Rahway, New Jersey location. Additionally, the individual will collaborate closely with scientists and automation experts to enable and optimize our growing investment in sample management and high throughput chemistry.

Responsibilities are as follows:

  • Liquid Handling / Automation Integration

  • Responsible for operations and troubleshooting automated integrated platforms (HRB Cellario) and automated storage solutions (Azenta Sample Store and SPT Labtech).

  • Programming and supporting liquid handling integration work (HRB Primes, Beckman FX, Tecan, Beckman Echo)

  • Develop quality control procedures to ensure instrument calibration and high-quality sample fulfillment.

  • Utilize vendors to support and service equipment to minimize down time.

  • Provide automation and data integration support to the High Throughput Purification group.

  • Collaborate with scientists and IT professionals to integrate instrumentation with LIMS systems for multiple sample modalities.

Scientific Excellence

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of analytical methods, automation, techniques, and instrumentation.

  • Apply scientific knowledge to assist with scientific decision-making and application of appropriate technologies.

Process Optimization

  • Apply lean thinking principles to continuously assess and improve current state processes to remove non-value-added work from scientists.

  • Create SOPs for efficient and effective operation and maintenance of automated equipment and analytical systems to satisfy department service level agreements.

  • Develop a strategic plan to expand capabilities using DSM's current fleet of instruments.

Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, Life Sciences or equivalent

Required Skills and Experience:

  • High level of automation and engineering competency and technical expertise in the areas of integration, robotics, liquid handling, software, and LIMS systems, and must be able to apply this expertise in a senior leadership capacity to continuously improve the organization's technical competency and output.

  • Ability to think strategically and present new concepts/ideas to senior leaders and lab scientists.

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with site leaders, senior management, peers, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication.

  • Must be able to prioritize resources to deliver required level of output for highest priority projects.

  • Self-starter with ability to work independently and make disciplined and rapid decisions to ensure efficient laboratory operations.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working in pharmaceutical or biotech company.

  • Experience with liquid handling systems – (HighResBio, Beckman, Tecan, Azenta, SPT Labtech)

  • Experience with UPLC, LC/MS

  • Experience with implementing and integrating large scale and small-scale automation with internal LIMS

  • SQL/Oracle programming

  • Microsoft programming languages (VB, C# or equivalent)

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Effective September 5, 2023, employees in office-based positions in the U.S. will be working a Hybrid work consisting of three total days on-site per week, generally Tuesday, Wednesday and either Monday or Thursday, although the specific days may vary by site or organization, with Friday designated as a remote-working day, unless business critical tasks require an on-site presence. Expected salary range:

$111,400.00 - $175,300.00
