Our Environmental Sustainability Scope 3 Council sits within our Global Supplier Management Group (GSMG). We inspire, educate, and empower people to make a difference and directly contribute to a healthier planet, and embed Environmental Sustainability into our everyday lives and ways of working. The program combines Environmental Sustainability expertise with a variety of strong stakeholder & supplier engagement tactics for driving Environmental Sustainability initiatives. We deliver value to our company and its environment in the form of a robust decarbonization strategy to achieve our corporate Scope 3 near-term and Net Zero objectives.

As the Senior Specialist - Supplier Sustainability – Value Chain Emissions & Engagement, you will play a crucial role delivering value to our Scope 3 program. In this role, you will report to the Scope 3 Program Director. You will contribute across various workstreams, among which supporting our company with designing, implementing, and managing a robust Scope 3 decarbonization program for our value chain. You will collaborate with suppliers and internal procurement teams to design and optimize Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data collection and integration processes and standards to ensure high quality data. You will utilize and implement IT Tools that enable data collection, analysis, and internal and external reporting at scale. Your understanding of best practice carbon accounting principles and industry guidance will support the development of data strategies on evolving carbon data sets.

Key responsibilities

  • Relationship Management

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, internal and external stakeholders, fostering awareness and engagement in environmental sustainability initiatives, while ensuring alignment with our corporate values.

  • Strategy Development

  • In collaboration with procurement teams, develop and implement robust Scope 3 emissions reduction strategies within our value chain, collaborating with cross-functional teams to align with environmental sustainability objectives.

  • Supplier Engagement

  • Support the development and drive the execution of supplier engagement programs, providing guidance and resources to suppliers to drive the adoption of sustainable practices.

  • Enable and support procurement professionals, providing education, guidance, and tools.

  • Explore collaborative opportunities and accelerate knowledge sharing across categories.

  • Collaborate with Data & IT teams to expedite our efforts to obtain and incorporate supplier provided emissions data.

  • Leverage external stakeholder collaboration platforms such as PSCI, Energize.

  • GHG Emissions Data

  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of GHG data in close collaboration with our Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) team.

  • Develop minimum supplier GHG emissions data requirements that enable the collection of high confidence data in a consistent manner.

  • Explore ways to progress towards (Hybrid) Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) data and novel GHG emissions allocation.

  • Implement and optimize process for validating and integrating supplier GHG emissions data into the company footprint (for internal and external reporting purposes) at scale.

  • Partner with business stakeholders to perform emissions analysis within the value chain to understand hotspots and areas of focus. Where needed and feasible, apply LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) or comparable methodologies to improve GHG data accuracy.

  • Monitor, analyze and interpret supplier-reported data to draw insights, identify focus areas and inform overall Scope 3 strategy.

  • Closely collaborate with EHS and IT workstream to ensure IT Tools are optimized for our functional needs.

  • Work with GSMG Data Analytics to ensure Scope 3 Emissions dashboard is up to date, optimized and, where available, upload supplier provided (and approved) emissions data.

  • IT Systems & Tools

  • Ensure close collaboration with internal IT teams to define functional requirements, perform market assessments and support the implementation of an enterprise IT tool that is utilized for collection, analyzing, and reporting at scale.

Education Minimum Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or a technical/quantitative field.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of 3-4 years of experience related to Sustainability, Supply chain, Procurement, Project Management or similar roles within life sciences industry or related fields.

  • Knowledge of environmental sustainability concepts, regulations, and industry best practices.

  • Passionate about environmental sustainability – Demonstrates a vision for driving positive change in the life sciences industry.

  • Data & Tools – Proven track record in working with complex data sets, process developments and utilization of digital tools to monitor, analyze and interpret data to draw insights, identify focus areas and inform overall strategies.

  • Strong understanding in GHG accounting protocols, especially Scope 3 emissions, sustainability principles, and environmental impact assessment methodologies. Proficiency in evolving guidance from GHG protocol, SBTi and sector-specific guidelines.

  • Familiarity with greenhouse gas emissions accounting and reporting standards such as:

  • GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard

  • GHG Protocol Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Accounting and Reporting Standard

  • GHG Protocol Product Lifecycle Accounting and Reporting Standard

  • ISO 14067 Carbon Product Footprinting Standard

  • TCFD Reporting Framework

  • PCAF guidelines.

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Effective September 5, 2023, employees in office-based positions in the U.S. will be working a Hybrid work consisting of three total days on-site per week, generally Tuesday, Wednesday and either Monday or Thursday, although the specific days may vary by site or organization, with Friday designated as a remote-working day, unless business critical tasks require an on-site presence. Expected salary range:

$91,600.00 - $144,100.00
